The Martels - Dedication
On August 26, 2011, as part of the official re-opening of Little Lake Park in Midland, the members of the Martels Rock & Roll Show were honoured with an unveiling of a street sign as special recognition for their contribution to the town of Midland over the last 53 years. In front of 500 bopping fans, The Martels performed a 2 hour concert in appreciation of this distinctive award.
The street sign, which says: THE MARTELS LANE, seemed fitting since they took people down memory lane; back half a century to a time when they had teens wearing out shoe leather on dance floors across Canada.
Heritage committee chair Sue McKenzie, said there was a synergy between recognizing The Martels by naming a street after the band and the grand re-opening of Little Lake Park which has become the social, cultural and recreational heart of the town.
The Martels Rock & Roll Show is a musical legend that just keeps going and going and certainly lives up to Midland's Mayor Gordon McKay's description as "one of the best show bands in the world". |
